Folk Clothing
Folk Clothing began its life in 2001 as the brainchild of Cathal McAteer. His aim was to not only create stylish clothing but to look beyond this into the larger context of modern product design including furniture and artwork. Folk clothing focuses on simple patterns, quality fabrics and attention to detail. The simplistic everyday garments are playful yet subtle, combining streetwear with an architectural aesthetic. This makes their clothing a go-to for wearable, everyday wardrobe staples that last.
Folk Clothing — Autumn/Winter 2023
The concept of thriving through constraints was evident in our approach to Folk's Autumn/Winter collection. Drawing inspiration from the works of American artist Frank Stella, renowned for his involvement in the minimalist art movement, our focus was on the fundamental elements of painting: lines, shapes, colours, materials, and composition. Stella's art embraces the two-dimensional, tactile quality of canvas, urging viewers to perceive the complete idea with clarity and simplicity. With his mastery of straightforward, sincere, and playful design, he resonates with our design philosophy.
